Mari Åkerblom is a vocal artist, pianist and composer that explores limits and ways of being a creative artist beyond genre.
2018/2019 she attended her first year at the international Master of fine art in improvisation at the Academy of music and drama in Gothenburg. 2019/2020 she has a study leave to come back to the master studies in autumn 2020.
The main goal for Mari is to explore the limits and the crossing of limits and the before known and the not before known. Explore the not before known, explore the limits and extremes and explore all utterly subtle nuances. Explore the subtle nuances of the voice and the musical forms and textures.
She wants to reach the right balance where the known, the more concrete, logic, clean, straightforward, traditional, melodic, beautiful, sophisticated meets the complex, chaotic, raw, open, poetic and severe.
I want to make sound-poetry and yet I want to compose tunes. I want to build musical worlds and vocabularies where imagination is in high status. Lead by the lust to make new but also remake some old in a new and fresh way.
Living my art like everyday poetry.
Like life itself I create organic forms that lives. If it is too rigid its dead and if its too chaotic it looses its direction.
Like a researcher on the human existence through musical composition and improvisation.
There are many layers and levels that has to coexist in the music I want to create. Life is both simple and complex and I want my music the same way.
